Ministry Highlight: Heritage International School

Heritage Staff Prayer Walk
Heritage International School opened in 1994, sponsored by missionaries of five different Christian missions, with the aim of providing a Christ-centered education for all children, regardless of their religious, social or economic background. Enrollment is now over 340 students from 27 different nations. The aim continues to be to provide a high quality education that prepares Heritage young people for a life of faith and service.

As a Christian school, Heritage tries to put Jesus Christ at the center of all they do. Heritage believes in the redeeming power of the gospel and the abundant life promised to all who follow Him. All Heritage students participate in the spiritual life of the school: sharing prayer requests, attending chapel and studying the Bible, and trying to adhere to Christ's teaching on love and respect. The schools hopes that, above all, Heritage is a place that reflects the love of Jesus Christ and that whether you join their community as a teacher, parent or student you find yourself accepted, encouraged and inspired during your time there.

The founders of Heritage International School dreamed of a place where the influence of Christian Service would go beyond academics, impacting the entire international and inter-denominational Christian Community. Heritage holds firmly to this vision.  The mascot of Heritage is a lion, symbolizing the Lion of Judah, and the school’s name was chosen from Psalm 127:3. “Children are a heritage from the LORD…” (NIV)

It is God through the ministries of Heritage International School that is bringing change in the lives of children and their families in Uganda. When students from Heritage attend interscholastic activities, their attitudes are noticeably different. “Your students always seem to encourage each other,” a teacher said at a recent athletic event.   One of the observable traits of the Heritage student body is their commitment to other members of the Heritage family.  Win or lose, pulling together and encouraging one another is an element of our community that we hope to continue to demonstrate.  “Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”  I Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
