April Update

Dear Team,
Thanks for standing with us in prayer. Because of the time you spend praying, we wait in eager anticipation to see what our great God will do to advance His Kingdom among us here.

Missionaries
  • Pray for the Mayo family as they grieve the loss of Jonathan’s father, William Mayo. His funeral was Saturday, March 29. Jonathan wasn’t able to be at the funeral but had spent almost 2 weeks in the States with his parents and sisters the last part of February and early March.
  • Pray for the missionaries who are currently raising their support that they will be a blessing to those they meet with and the churches they speak in. Also pray for protection as they travel and for the health of all family members. (Leisure, Metz, Williams, Hallahan, Rambo, Hopson)
  • Kenneth and Delight Hopson will arrive back in Uganda on June 24. Pray for the packing and goodbyes that will be said. They will be returning this time without Kaleb who is now attending college.
  • Nicole Leisure will have surgery on April 22. Pray for peace of mind for her and the family as well as a quick recovery.
  • Josh and Kelly Hallahan are close to the point in raising their support where they can go ahead and purchase tickets to return. Pray that God will provide what is remaining for them to return in May.
  • Nathan and Jade Metz are in the process of putting their house up for sale, and Nathan finished his job last Friday so that they can raise support full time. Pray for this transition time for the family and for God’s provision.
  • Scott and Meg Rambo are anticipating the arrival of baby Elijah later in the summer. Pray that God will keep Meg and the baby healthy and for the family. Also pray for new contacts for Scott and Meg to share about God’s vision for Congo.
  • Justin and Debbie Williams are also needed here in Uganda. Pray that God will open up doors for them to speak to people about their support needs as well as giving those listening receptive hearts so that their wallets, purses, and bank accounts will be opened in generosity.
  • Billy and Joanna Coppedge arrived back in the States for HMA yesterday. Pray for Billy, Joanna, and the girls to have a smooth transition from rural Uganda to urban America.
Africa Gospel Church Uganda
  • There is a Pastors’ Wives Conference May 6-10 here in Kampala sponsored by another organization. Pray that the pastors’ wives would be able to take advantage of this opportunity to be challenged in their spiritual growth and to be encouraged in their role of pastor’s wife. The cost is minimal (less than $15 for lodging and food), but for them it can be an obstacle that prevents them from participating.
  • Pray for strong marriages for the pastors and their wives so that they will be godly models to their communities.
  • Pray that the pastors will be men of integrity in all of their business pursuits as well as church activities.
  • Pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit on the church as a whole that will convict of guilt in regard to sin and unrighteousness.
  • Pray that the church leadership will be transformed by the renewing of their minds so that they can help themselves and the local people overcome a “poverty” mindset.
Heritage International School
  • A very big praise is that Heritage International School was given provisional accreditation after the visit of the accreditation team last week. Lisa Mayo and Lisa Fish both worked very hard to see this become a reality. Pray that their minds and bodies will be refreshed after all of their hard work.
University Discipleship Movement
  • Even though the attendance at the main service on Sundays has seen a decrease in the last couple of years, there are more students becoming involved in small groups. This semester 89 students are taking part in small groups and are studying The Purpose Driven Life together. Pray that the students will learn how to live as a Christ-follower at all times affecting every part of their lives so that we will see Africa transformed by this generation.
  • Several Bible study and discipleship groups are now meeting at the International University of East Africa. Pray that God will do a great work in their lives as they participate in these groups.
  • Pray for wisdom for those leading the ministry (Kennedy Kirui, Edwin Eregwa, Laura Oyeri, Hezekiah Aurah) as they provide counselling for those who have deep spiritual needs.
  • Pray for open doors and open hearts for the many international students coming to the universities in Kampala. There are now groups meeting at Kampala International University, Cavendish University, and International University of East Africa.
Community Health Empowerment
  • Tiana Duncan has arrived in Uganda and has already been making visits to those that have been trained in CHE the last couple of years. Pray that God will use her for His glory while she’s here.
  • The CHE training schedule has been set up for the rest of this year, and there are at least 9 different training events on the calendar. Pray that these events won’t just be activity, but that there will be real transformation in communities.
  • Pray for Jennipher Wasirimba, our CHE coordinator, as she travels to various communities to oversee the training teams. Pray that the Holy Spirit will provide her with great answers to the hard questions that are asked.
  • There are still ongoing needs for translation of CHE materials into other languages. A couple of good contacts have been made for help in translating some basic materials into Kirundi.
  • Pray that as trainings are held that the power of God and the facilitators’ lessons will create an atmosphere in which people can grasp the idea that God has provided all that they need to bring change to their lives, their families, and their communities.
  • John Muehleisen and Tiana Duncan are working on the CHE lessons to develop a much more simplified format as well as much simpler English. They are finding it a challenge to come up with very simple English words to express the CHE lessons. Pray for God’s help in this process.
